Seasons Greetings

Seasons Greetings from us on a cold and frosty night. It has
been another unbelievable week with nearly a foot of snow and more
incredibly low temperatures. Very pretty even though the
roads are tricky and we are both recovering from the flu so haven't
been out that much to enjoy the weather.
Very difficult to do anything except keeping the fires stoked
and feeding the birds. Oh and trying to keep the polytunnels and
one greenhouse frost free (easier said than done and exceptionally
expensive!!) Fortunately we don't appear to have lost much but we
still need to keep some plants watered that are in growth. A long a
tiresome task as a all the outside taps are frozen and all watering
cans have to be filled and carried from the house.
In just one month's time its amazing to think that seed sowing
for 2011 will begin in earnest with sweet peas and early vegetables
in particular to be sown by mid January. Most seed has been
gathered or ordered and we now eagerly await as always at this time
of year delivery of the Chiltern Seeds catelogue. The best read at
Christmas/New Year full of exciting dreams to be fulfilled. If you
are not familiar with the catelogue go on line to www.chilternseeds.co.uk
We hope that we will be as lucky as last winter when most of our
border plants came through to give a wonderful display of flowers.
There will be some trepidation next spring but we will be keeping
everything crossed. We are already receiving group bookings for
visits next summer and have the small matter of another 20
talks to deliver before the winter comes to an end. A nice way to
keep in touch with the gardening community. to renew old
acquaintances and meet some new friends in gardening.
With very warmest good wishes for the festive season and for a
wonderful gardening year in 2011
