Apologies for the delay but sorted at last!!
The lovely field of wild poppies on a nature reserve near
Bewdley, Worcestershire;also reported in The Daily Telegraph.
Orchids and ox-eye daisies on a road verge near Hay-on-Wye -
they extended for 100 yards long and 5 yards wide. An inspired
Powys County Council had not cut back the verges to keep them tidy
- good for them. You could not improve on this in any border design
- nature always does it best!
The vegetable garden in full production - view from the
house roof. How desperate can you be to get a special picure?
Hardy annuals are such a joy as mentioned in June News and here
is a stunner: orlaya grandiflora an elegant umbellifer to 18" tall
which seeds around gently with mini hedgehog like seeds. Only an
annual - how often do I hear this but they deserve a much better
press. No garden should be without them.
Something much more exotic and imposing at over 6' tall.
Justicia carnea from Brazil over wintered in a polytunnel with heat
and wrapped snuggly in horticultural fleece it gives a great early
summer show and is a real WOW factor plant. Easy too from
cuttings.
A view of the Paddock Pond coming back to life again after the
severe winter weather and restocked with golden rudd and mirror
carp. Dragonflies and damselflies are on the wing again too as the
days warm up. Kingfishers spotted and heard the last few days.
High Glanau Manor in Monmouthshire, a wonderful Arts and
Crafts house and gardens in an elevated yet sheltered position
above the town of Monmouth.
The towers and gardens of Stone House Cottage Gardens near
Kidderminster, a really iconic garden and a great nursery.
Our picture of the month - Moira and I with John Hillier
and his wife before they left the gardens with some of their plant
purchases and having signed the indispensible Manual of Trees and
Shrubs. An unforgettable day
